    Related experience
  • Founded and directed a community based organization that successfully addressed the pollution of the Big Pigeon River by Champion International Corporation, Canton, NC. This program established in 1986, provided the basis for a Class Action Law Suit that settled for 6.4 Million dollars that was distributed to landowners on the river and Douglas Lake in Tennessee. It also produced an economic impact study of the pollution and forced the plant to reduce pollution levels to the point that the river is acceptable for water recreation. This resulted in the establishment of a multi-million dollar white water rafting business on the river in Cocke County, Tennessee.
  • Founded an organization focused on improving water quality in eight counties of East Tennessee (Knox, Blount, Loudoun, Anderson, Sevier,Jefferson, Cocke and Hamblen). This organization is based on Izaak Walton League of America principles of conservation and stresses the importance of clean water to the quality of life and economics of the region. The effort is aimed at addressing the problems of floating trash, silt and sewage in the waters of the seven-county focus area. The “First Creek First” project is a proving ground for methods to get citizens, businesses, public agencies and organizations to cooperate in removing trash from our waters and perventing the flow of trash into the waters of this region.
  • Developed a site plan and promotional materials for the Dandridge, Tenneessee Recreational Park known as the “Field of Dreams” at Grace Schrader Park.
